A’ll tell dee!
Pronouns are words that refer to people or things. There are different kinds of pronouns. The personal pronouns refer to the speaker(s), the addressee(s) or some third person(s)/thing(s). It is very common in the world to show what role the pronoun has in the sentence, as Shaetlan does:
I/we spak tae Mary
means that the speaker(s) did something, so the pronoun is in the SUBJECT form. The subject form of the other pronouns are:
Du/you spak tae Mary.
He/shø/hit/dey spak tae Mary.
🧙🏽
However, in a sentence like:
Mary spak tae me/wis
something is happening TO the speaker, so the pronoun is in the OBJECT form. The object forms of the other pronouns are:
Mary spak tae dee/you.
Mary spak tae him/her/it/dem.
🧙🏽
Because StE only has one form for the addressee ('you'), no matter whether it is one or many, or whether it is a subject or object, this is sometimes assumed to be the case for Shaetlan too. However, a sentence like *"A'll see du damoarn" is impossible in Shaetlan and makes as little sense as something like *"We'll see she tomorrow" would in StE.
