Comparing as and ir

Conjunctions are small words that connect entities. Comparative conjunctions are used for comparisons. So in the Standard English sentence He's smaller than me the little word than is the conjunction. In Shaetlan the comparative conjunction is usually as, as in He's peerier as me. This is a very old form and use, which can also be found in the German als, as in Er ist kleiner als ich ('He is smaller than me'). But for a fair few speakers the natural form is ir, as in He's peerier ir me. This is also old, and goes back to a weakened form of nor (conjunction). A sentence like "He is peerier dan me" would reflect a loan of Standard English "than". To "correct" as/ir to something like "dan"/"than" would be misguided: as/ir reflect the original forms and a correct Shaetlan grammar.
