Shaetlan Language Plan

‼️BREAKING NEWS!‼️

We are utterly thrilled to be collaborating with UHI Shetland on the first ever Shaetlan Language Plan!

The language plan details how Shaetlan will be promoted locally, nationally and internationally. It aims to normalise the use of Shaetlan in signage and learning, to include Shaetlan in the next Scottish census and to continue to celebrate Shaetlan as a minority language on the international stage. There will be new education offers and research projects. We will also be collaborating in producing educational materials in Shaetlan to support the use of Shaetlan in schools and other education settings.

The Shaetlan Language Plan will help Shetlanders maintain, strengthen and promote their language. This is directly linked to the UHI Islands Strategy enabling plan and aligns with the National Islands Plan.

With special thanks to Dr. Beth Mouat, UHI Shetland Director of Research, Enterprise and Impact/UHI Islands Strategy Director, for taking this groundbreaking intitative and making it possible.
